The gameplay of The Legend of Dragoon Rom is built upon traditional RPG elements, but with unique mechanics that set it apart. The battle system uses turns and is centered on the “Add” mechanic, a system that demands precise timing. During combat, the player can execute combos of physical attacks by pressing the buttons at the exact moment indicated on the screen, which increases the damage dealt. This approach makes combat more interactive and dynamic than the standard RPGs of the time. Each character has their own set of Additions, which evolve as the player uses them, adding a layer of strategy to the choice of attacks. Another fundamental gameplay element is the Dragoon transformation. Each character can transform into a Dragoon by filling a special meter, granting them devastating magical abilities and increasing their defensive and offensive capabilities. During these transformations, players have access to powerful spells that consume Magic Points (MP) and special attacks that also depend on timing. Using these abilities effectively is essential to winning more difficult battles and challenging bosses.
