The whole reasoning behind her journey is less a childish desire to explore and more a professional desire to conduct research. Throughout the story, and in many more slice-of-life scenes, we learn that in the 3 years following Ryza 1’s ending, she’s become a teacher – helping spread the knowledge and ethics of alchemy to the kids on Kurken Island. That same maturity spreads to the rest of the characters and the narrative as a whole. It helps make Ryza 1’s story feel a little more substantial than it initially was, and it goes a good way towards making you care about the characters you meet and what their goals are.
