In Astral Ascent, you are trying to free the Astral prisoners whom the evil overlord captured. Your journey begins by escaping the central prison known as “The Garden,” which is guarded by the 12 Zodiacs and the overlord himself. Each playable character has a clear backstory and motive for wanting to take down the overlord and end his reign of terror. As you progress through the game, you’ll experience each character’s story through dialogue with the in-game NPCs. The great thing is that all of the characters and NPCs are voice-acted.
Astral Ascent ROM is definitely a great action roguelike by taking the best from its predecessors. The game takes a page out of Hades’ book by using dialogue to flesh out the characters. Although I will say some of the dialogue is a bit stiff and not as well-written as Hades, overall, it’s still impressive.
The core gameplay is still a platformer roguelike. The developer has optimized the platforming mechanics to perfection. Character movement is smooth, combat is intense, and the action is fast-paced but still requires strategy. Players will explore the hub world, ride magic owls, and traverse challenging levels. Astral Ascent Switch ROM has 4 characters that are distinguished by their basic attack, special ability, and spell system.
