Perfect Dark (N64) Roms is often described as a sequel to the game GoldenEye 007, released by Rare in 1997. Although James Bond does not appear in this release, the gameplay style is very similar to the original, running on an improved version of the same engine. Several gameplay advancements compared to its predecessor (GoldenEye 007) have been implemented, such as a second function for almost all weapons in the game, the ability to jump and fall from ledges, a better lighting system (allowing rooms to be illuminated by gunfire), and the ability to disarm enemies or shoot their weapons so they are lost, etc. Another significant advancement was the inclusion of robots of varying levels that can confront the player in multiplayer. Enemies have their heads randomly swapped in each new mission, as in GoldenEye 007, but in this game their heights also vary. All these new advancements require more RAM than GoldenEye, so the Expansion Pak (which adds 4MB of memory) is necessary to fully enjoy the game.
The weapons in Perfect Dark (N64) Rom include revolvers, rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, knives, and grenade launchers. Almost every weapon in the game has a secondary function, which can be changed by holding down the B button on the controller for approximately one second. Six very exotic alien weapons are also available, three from the Maian race and three from the Skedar. One of the Maian weapons, the Farsight XR-20, is quite interesting, as it combines a rifle with an x-ray scope that penetrates walls and kills from any distance.
