Shinobi: Art of Vengeance arose from an effort by Sega to revive some of their dormant franchises. The Shinobi franchise itself began in 1987 on arcade machines as a hack-and-slash, platforming action game.

Let’s start with the story and the basic premise that the protagonist, Joe Musashi, is out to get revenge on an organization called Any Corporation after he finds his village destroyed by them and his pupils turned to stone. He is out to get revenge on them and their leader, Lord Ruse, who is hell-bent on world domination.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance NSP Roms is a 2D action platformer, much like the other games in the series, although this game does quite a few things differently in an attempt to modernize it. It is much less linear, with levels that are quite massive, as you have a map that you can pull up to see where you need to go next.

There will be some parts that are inaccessible because of locked doors, and you will need to find levers or buttons to access these places and continue. And some parts are inaccessible until you get specific powers, and we’ll talk more about these later. And then you can return to a previous level to find some of its secrets.

For the most part, you’ll be using your katana to take down enemies, although you can also throw kunai. A finite amount of kunai, although you can find more as the level progresses.

You can perform basic combos such as pressing the Y button twice and the X button twice to throw enemies into the air. And sometimes you will need to destroy the shield or the defensive bar of enemies before you can actually do damage to them. You will unlock new combos as you go, as well as other powers that you can use, for example, a move that instantly destroys an enemy’s shield by holding the X button. And these are acquired through story progression or sometimes through purchasing them in shops that you encounter along the way in certain parts of each level.

A few other things that you may encounter in the levels are elite formations. These are certain points in a level that, if you destroy the icon you see on the screen, Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch Special Edition will begin a sequence that you can’t continue until you have eliminated every enemy. And these can get quite difficult. Finding all the elite formations in a level will grant you a key. I think they’re called “laboratory keys.” And these can unlock something special later on.

There are also skills. And again, you will find these in different ways throughout the game. And you can equip two of these, both a passive skill andane active skill that will give you specific perks. For example, it could be that healing items will boost you more, or it could be that reaching a certain number in your combo meter will make you stronger. And this will continue until you get hit. That’s a cool way for you to customize the game on a micro-level to suit your play style.

Each stage ends with a boss battle, and these will take a while for you to learn their patterns, know what moves of yours to use and when to use them, and whittle down their health bar, which is quite large.

The graphics of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Torrent obviously use a hand-drawn art style. This is something that Lizardcube has used before in some Sega games. It definitely has an undeniable Eastern flavor. Not only in terms of the setting and some of the locations, but just in terms of the character sprites and how they’re animated. There are several different locations that you will visit in each stage. And some of these look incredible.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance costs £24.99 and its regional equivalent, but you can download it completely free here. The game is rich in content with 12 unique levels for you to tackle. They are large levels that will take you a good amount of time to complete. Besides that, there are a few bonus stages and a good amount of unlockables, such as an arcade mode and a boss rush mode, once you have completed the game.
